Irrigation/Landscape Crew
(Bend/Central Oregon)
$15-18/hour depending on knowledge and experience
Rates are evaluated at 6 months and 1 year, following training.
Part-time options in the winter.
Full-time Expected February – November 35–40 hours/week. (Weather dependent)
The goal of Your Garden Companion, LLC is to heal the planet by developing regenerative practices to restore the urban landscape. Strategies include conserving water; restoring biodiversity with native plants; reducing toxins, herbicides, and excessive fertilizers; restoring soil ecology; increasing pollinator habitat; and reducing our carbon footprint by converting to battery-powered tools. We also model permaculture practices with native edibles and vegetables as well as water harvesting and rain gardens in our regenerative Demonstration Garden.
The irrigation work includes helping with install & retrofit designs, troubleshooting irrigation problems on properties, making basic repairs, and conducting spring turn-on adjustments and fall blow out winterization sessions with maintenance clients. Must be able to complete work log invoices accurately to include pricing. In addition, this person may be involved in all other aspects of landscaping when Irrigation work is not pending. This includes crew work on maintenance and installation jobs with tasks that include soil sampling and amending, trail, swale, and rain garden building, etc. Individuals with leadership skills qualify for growth as a Crew Leader and or Irrigation Designer.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an Irrigation/Landscape Training Program or mentored field experience.
- Knowledge or willingness to learn how to apply water conservation strategies to irrigation, soils, and plant life
- Requires problem solving abilities and effective communication skills
- Ability to use technology to track client jobs, record work completed and manage smart controllers.
- Must be able to articulate the problem to the owner and or irrigation personnel at supply stores to help resolve any new issues.
- Caring, safe and conscientious of quality and completion of a task well done
- Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively with a crew
- Ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends (in an emergency)
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. using proper lifting techniques
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility and on the job site in small spaces
- Familiarity or willingness to learn to operate sod cutters, bobcats, mowers, weed whackers, etc. (Most small power tools are electric.)
- Acceptable MVR – No more than three moving violations within the last three years, No DUI’s within the last five years.
- Irrigation Truck provided from Base Office.
The main priority is to implement our regenerative and sustainable practices in the field by leading a crew and or working independently to investigate irrigation related problems on the job, then summarize potential solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for effectively communicating with the supervisor of extraordinary repairs to a property so it could be relayed to the client
- Collaborate with leadership team on work schedules, client needs and staffing concerns
- Complete work log invoices, WLI’s for future and completed work, then process accordingly
- Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions on job sites
- Manage all tools and equipment in vehicle and keep it clean, organized and well stocked with the most essential supplies
- Be able to price out repairs and estimates for various jobs.
- Responsible for responding to supervisor promptly and follow up with all work orders assigned
- Ensure accurate, efficient repairs to property as needed
- Responsible for winterizing properties assigned completely to prevent irrigation pipes from freezing
- Create and update property maps (11 x 17) of hydro zones to keep in client files.
- Discuss any client requests before completing work with your supervisor.
- Must keep personal protective gear available and used as required.
- Required to follow safety rules of the Employee Handbook as well as items discussed in safety meetings
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Must have valid Oregon driver’s license and clean driving record, pass a drug test, pass criminal history check, driving record check. Must have ability to do physical labor and other strenuous repetitive physical tasks; easily lift 50lbs, stand, stoop, kneel and material handling for extended time periods. The season runs approximately March through November in all types of weather, so a positive attitude is essential.
